Team Ireland’s European U15 Championship medal tally has risen to 12, following the boxing today of the boys quarter finals.

57kg Kieran McDonagh secured a podium finished with a dominant 5-0 win in his quarter final with Turkey’s Vesim Akdamar Varcin on a scoreline of 27:30; 25:30; 26:30; 26:30; 27:30; .Kieran is back in action on Friday, boxing his semi final against Rene Polak of the Czech Republic.

75kg Thomas O’Reilly has won at least a bronze medal, by way of a 5-0 against England’s Levi Valler – judges scored the bout 28:29; 28:29; 27:30; 26:30; 27:30. Thomas contests his semi-final on Friday against Turkey’s Yenerhan Eroglu.

Team Co-Captain 48kg Zac Creighton is also a medalist – he was the 3-2 split decision quarter final win over Yehya Odeh of Israel. Judges scored the bout 29:28; 28:29; 29:28; 28:29; 27:30. Zac boxes his semi final against Vakaris Kiseliunas of Lithuania on Friday.

52kg Patrick Hourican has won, at minimum, bronze medal, following his 5-0 quarter fina win over Ianis Lucas Caldararu of Romania on a scoreline of 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30. Patrick boxes for an up-grade in his semi final on Friday, against Georgia’s Giorgi Akhveldiani

Team Managers Stephen Connolly and Bridget Scott and coaches Paul Simpson, John Coffey, Tommy O’Donnell & Lynne McEnery have said they are incredibly proud of the whole team and their performances in the championship to date. They have extended special thanks to the club coaches of all members of the European U15 Championship team.

369 boxers including 131 girls and 138 boys from 32 nations are competing in this record-breaking European U15 Boxing Championships. The participating federations are: Albania, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine

Day 6

Six Team Ireland boxers are between the ropes on Thursday – The Afternoon Session begins at 1pm, while the Evening Session gets underway at 5pm.

40kg Ellie May Featherson boxes for a place in the finals against Nasrin Abdullazada of Azerbaijan in Bout 2 of the Afternoon Session. In the subsequent bout 42kg Rosaletta Casey takes on Scotland’s Sinita Kaur in her semi-final.

52kg Ellie Curtain Murray is in action in Bout 10 of the same session, against Hungary’s Vivien Varga. In Bout 14, Maicey Field meets Romania’s Patricia Sara Grigorie.

Team Co-Captain 63kg Roisin Hegarty contests her semi-final against Turkey’s Ivana Kilci in Bout 16.

63kg Charlie Joyce Connolly is boxing a quarter final tomorrow, taking on Lithuania’s Danas Sestakovas in Bout 7 of the Evening Session
