Dominic O’Rourke, President of the IABA, has wished all associated with Irish boxing a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Team Ireland enjoyed a vintage 2018 with over 40 medals claimed in World, European and Olympic Youth competition against some of the finest boxers on the planet.
The monthly medal average, culminating in World and EU Elite gold for Kellie Harrington and Kurt Walker, was over five a month since April.
The Irish European Schoolboy/girl and European Junior Men’s and Women’s squads performed tremendously after commanding top three positions in the medals table.
“I would like to wish all our boxers, coaches, clubs and staff a very Happy Christmas and Happy New Year,”said the IABA President.
“Our athletes performed exceptionally well at all levels in 2018 and are a source of continuous pride. I would like to thank our coaches and staff and our clubs, club coaches and staff for their enormous contribution both internationally and domestically this year.
“The performances in 2018 augur well for 2019 and our boxers will go into the New Year with renewed confidence.”
