The IABA Officer Board, Central Council, Munster Council and guests were greeted by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Mick Finn, at the Convention at the Commons Inn on Leeside.

The IABA were led by President and CEO Dominic O’Rourke and Fergal Carruth and officers.

Proceedings formally began on Saturday at a Boxing Breakfast which was addressed by Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin, son of legendary Leeside boxer Paddy “The Champ” Martin.

The Boxing Breakfast was followed by the unveiling of a plaque to Cork’s World and European medallists on the Boxing Wall at Bishop Lucy Park. Delegates also visited the Glen BC.

Michael O’Brien, President of the Cork County Boxing Board, welcoming all to Leeside, described the occasion as historic as it marked the first time that an IABA Convention was hosted in the Rebel County in 106 years of amateur boxing in Ireland.
