IABA mourns the passing of Joe Vaughan.

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association is deeply saddened by the passing of Joe Vaughan, founder of West Finglas Boxing Club

Joe, a native of Moy in North Clare, died tragically following a fire at his home there in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He was 75.

As well as founding, managing and growing West Finglas Boxing Club and, Joe was highly active in the local community over a period of decades. Aside from his love of boxing, Joe taught Business and Maths at Coláiste Dhúlaigh for 38 years, where he raised over €100,000 for Dom Savio Youth Club for young people experiencing mental or physical challenges through a range of fundraising events.

President of the Dublin County Board, Art O’Brien, says ” Joe was the quintessential gentleman and an extraordinary man. He was passionate about boxing, about West Finglas Boxing Club and about his local community. He was a vital member of the Dublin boxing community. On behalf of Dublin County Board and our 60 clubs, I’d like to express deepest condolences to Joe’s family, friends and clubmates at West Finglas Boxing Club.”

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
