Esker Boxing Club and Drimnagh Boxing Club are delighted to announce the inaugural show in what will become an annual event between the two Dublin clubs.
The Liam Clarke Memorial Cup will take place on Saturday 15th June in at The Ringside Club, National Stadium.
Former World Cruiserweight Champion and Sky Sports Commentator Glenn McCrory is travelling over from England to present the trophies and awards on the night.
Liam Clarke was a three time Irish Senior Lightweight Champion during the 1960’s and is considered by many to be one of the top Lightweight Champions in Irish amateur boxing history. Liam boxed out of Arbour Hill Boxing Club as an amateur and boxed professionally in England before setting up home with his family in Lucan, County Dublin.
Liam coached at Drimnagh BC for a period before being instrumental in setting up the original Lucan Boxing Club in the early 1980’s.
Because of Liam’s having coached current coaches from both Esker and Drimnagh Boxing Club’s they have decided alongside the IABA to honour Liam’s boxing legacy by hosting this event with the support of the Clarke family. It promises to be a special night with 13 contests from Juvenile to Elite boxers participating.
Liam gave his life to boxing and young boxers so it’s a honour for Irish Amateur Boxing to finally recognise him in a meaningful way. Do not miss it..!!
