Team Ireland will be aiming for “twin” victories over England at the Athy GAA Club in Kildare this evening.
The Boys and Girls in Green hold a 12-8 advantage over the visitors from last night’s 1st leg at the St Brigid’s BC in Offaly.
Tipperary siblings, Jerome Lonergan-Gartland and Ellie Mae-Gartland, – pictured below after winning in Offaly -, the first male and female twins to box for Ireland, recorded victories over talented opponents amid a tremendous atmosphere in Edenderry.
St Brigid’s BC head coach, Liam Brereton, thanked all concerned for their contribution to what he described as a fantastic night.
Boxing begins at 6pm this evening in Athy.
Dominic O’Rourke, President of the IABA, welcoming England to the Thoroughbred County, said they’re looking forward to another big night of competition.
“We saw some tremendous boxing between two talented sides in Edenderry last night and we’re anticipating more of the same this evening. The young athletes from both nations boxed their hearts out last night,” said O’Rourke who was at ringside on Friday.
Ireland and England are building up toward next month’s European Male and Female Junior Championships in Russia.
