IRISH TRIO BOW OUT AT EURO U/22S

romania

Irish captain Thomas Carthy, Eugene McKeever and Geoffrey Kavanagh bowed out of the European U/22 Championships on unanimous and split decisions in Braila, Romania this afternoon and evening.

Carthy and Kavanagh were aiming to join their Glasnevin BC team-mate Jordan Moore in the last-eight on Saturday, but both had to accept second best against Ukraine’s Vitalii Pakuliak and Hungary’s Adam  Hamari in the super-heavy and heavy classes.

McKeever dropped Vitalii Tereshchuk with a sweet right hook near the end of the second, the Ukrainian taking a count, but the decision went against the Irishman on a split.

Current Elite champion Kurt Walker, Dylan Duffy, Keith Flavin, Keylan Cassidy and Brian Kennedy are in action on St Patrick’s Day.
