JENNIFER O’SULLIVAN WINS VOLUNTEER IN SPORTS AWARD

Jennifer O’Sullivan received a Volunteers in Sports Award at Farmleigh House in Dublin today.

The Kerry native is one of the founding members of the Sliabh Luachra BC.

The progressive Castleisland club has been running for 13 years.

O’Sullivan, also a volunteer with the IABA, said she was thrilled to receive the award.

“I’m delighted, it was a nice surprise,” she said. “The club nominated me, it was lovely….. thirteen years going.”

Will boxing get another 13 years?

“I’ll keep going for now. The important thing is that I’m enjoying it,” she added.

The Federation of Irish Sport, supported by EBS, today announced the winners of the 2019  Awards.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dom O’Rourke, President of the IABA, described O’Sullivan as an outstanding ambassador for boxing.

The awards recognise coaches, managers, officials and administrators in amateur sports.

It’s estimated that over a million hours are invested in sport on a weekly basis by adult volunteers.

Members of the public were invited to nominate an individual for the Awards.

A winner was named from all 32 counties this afternoon as well as Team of Volunteers Awards and a Lifetime Award.
