The Limerick and Defence Forces boxing teams met in Southside Academy in Limerick yesterday for what proved to be a very entertaining and high-quality show.
The Limerick team won 5 bouts to 2 with one exhibition also boxed.
The two most anticipated bouts finished a win a piece with former Elite champ Ross Hickey (Defense Forces) just pipping World Junior silver medalist Eamer Coughlan in a thriller and current U/ 22 heavyweight champ Kevin Sheehy getting the nod over Senior titleholder Danny O’Brien after three hard hitting rounds.
The headline bout saw former Elite champ Martin Kennan outpoint the game James Corcoran to close out a very successful day of boxing on Shannonside.
Brothers Tony and Jerome Deloughrey, both former Elite internationals and Defence Forces boxers, were presented with awards for services to boxing from the Limerick County Board following Sunday’s bouts.
