Limerick welter Paddy Donovan, pictured, is dreaming of Tokyo 2020, according to the Limerick Leader.

The Treaty City stylist, a former World Junior finalist, will compete at the National Elite Championships which begin tonight at Dublin’s National Stadium.

The draw will be posted here online at iaba.ie this afternoon.

It’s expected that the World Elite Men’s Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia in September will be the first major qualifier for Tokyo 2020.

But road to the foot of the Ural mountains and the 32nd Olympiad begins at the Stadium this evening.

Donovan, who boxes out of the Our Lady of Lourdes BC, is impressed by defending champions Kieran Molloy, former champion Dean Walsh and Aidan Walsh in the 69kg class.

”Winning them (Elites) means I have the chance to qualify for the Olympics in 2020. My whole career has been built around the next moment coming up, so I’m looking forward to that,” said Donovan.
