Dean Walsh (red) in action
Ireland’s top boxers will be aiming to join Stephen McKenna in the National Elites finals over the next 24 hours at the National Stadium in Dublin.
McKenna, who is making his Elite debut, received a bye into the light-fly decider and will meet either Regan Buckley or Daryl Moran in the 49kg final this day week.
McKenna brought the curtain down on his impressive underage career with a silver medal win at the European Youth Championships in Poland last weekend.
Buckley and Moran get the weekend’s semi-finals underway this evening.
John Joyce and Fearghus Quinn open tonight’s card in the remaining middleweight quarter-final to be resolved. The winner meets defending champion and European Games gold medallist Michael O’Reilly tomorrow night.
The first session of weigh-ins took place at the National Stadium this morning. There will be a further session between 12pm and 1pm today.
