High Performance hosts Connacht Coaching Seminar.

High Performance has held a Coaching Seminar in Connacht, as part of the Ireland & Ukraine training camp.

Ukraine is bringing a full squad of Olympic weight boxers to contest against Ireland in a Round Robin on April 5th These will follow a series of collective squad training sessions with Ireland, and test matches from April 2nd to 4th. The training camp, and the International, is kindly hosted by Castlerea Boxing Club and Connacht Provincial Council.

Ukraine is returning to Ireland after taking part a High Performance Super Camp in Sport Institute Ireland, the home of the HPU, in September. The High Performance Unit has, in the last 6 months, hosted Spain, France and Turkey in camps in Dublin and Belfast.

This is the second Coaching Seminar hosted by High Performance in 2024, following the holding of an Ulster Coaching Seminar at the Ulster High Performance Unit at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, in January. Up to 30 coaches took part in that workshop.

This evening’s seminar, in which 14 coaches participated, involved a boxing technical presentation by High Performance Head Coach Zauri Antia and Coach, Damian Kennedy, observation of a High Performance school combat training session, and a Q&A.

Attention: parents/guardians of boxers contesting all competitions, April 1st to 6th.

To reduce the workload on clubs and coaches in arranging printing, completion and return of competition waivers and codes of conduct, and the workload on weigh-in officials in managing collection of this documentation, both documents have been converted to an online process.

This was piloted during the BG4 championships, and 100% of the parents/guardians of boxers contesting this competition participated in the process. To date, for these championships, 468 parents/guardians have participated.

Please share this link with parents/guardians of all boxers contesting the 2024 National BG1,2 & 3 Championships and the 2024 National Junior Championships. It is shareable by email, text message or WhatsApp.

Please ask parents/guardians to complete the link March 30th. Review and signing takes under 3 minutes. It is a condition of competition that these documents are digitally signed by parents/guardians and boxers.

For queries or comments on this process, please contact IABA National Safeguarding Manager, Stephen Flynn – stephen@iaba.ie or +35386 074 8867

IABA intends to live-stream this competition, with our partners StreamSport and JW Player, and completion of waiver/consent forms for both boxers in a given bout is required for streaming to occur.
