Two time Olympic medalist, Paddy Barnes, visiting the Men’s Camp today.
A Men’s Camp, including boxers from Spain, is underway at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, and runs until October 7th.
A Women’s Training Camp, including boxers from France, Turkey and Spain, begins today at the High Performance Unit, at Sport Institute Ireland on the Sport Ireland Campus.
A total of 8 sparring sessions will take place across both camps, in addition to tec/tac, school combat, S&C, and track sessions, and nutrition education workshops. 12 High Performance Paris Pool Coaches will also coach across both camps.
This is excellent preparation for our boxers – France, Spain and Turkey are very strong teams. There were fantastic performances in the Super Camp with Ukraine, and it this is the best time to build on those performances.
Head Coach, Zauri Antia
The staging of these camps follows 3 weeks on from the holding of a 52 boxer Super Camp, including Ukraine, and IABA teams – Team Emerald, Team Shamrock and Team Harp. This was the largest camp to have taken place in the High Performance Unit since 2016.
The IABA High Performance Super Camp and these Men’s and Women’s multi-nations camps are key events for boxer development and come less than 300 days from the Paris 2024 Olympics. Athletes will seek to build on the momentum and learning of all three events as they target the 2024 National Elite Championships this November.
We’re also bolstered by the contribution of sport science service providers in the fields of physiotherapy, S&C, physiology and nutrition – as well as by the support and expertise of the High Performance Paris Pool Coaches as they continue their HP journey.
Interim High Performance Director, Tricia Heberle.
