Team NI’s McNaul Through to Commonwealth Games Quarter Finals.

Ormeau Road BC’s Carly McNaul is through to the light-fly quarter finals at the Commonwealth Games.

Carly, a Gold Coast silver medallist in 2018, contest against Australia’s Kirsty Lee Harris, contested a very tight bout in Birmingham today, winning 3-2. The Judge’s final scores were: 27:30, ,30:26, 29:28, 27:30,29: 28.

Carly contests her Quarter Final on Wednesday at 12.30, against Sri Lanka’s Kenshani Hansika.

The second Team NI boxer between the ropes today was Emerald BC middleweight, Jake Tucker. He boxed Guernsey’s Billie Le Poullain in another very tight bout – Jake lost out on the narrowest of margins, the 3-2 split. Judges scored the bout 28:29, 29:28, 26: 30, 29:28, 29:28.

51kg Clepson Paiva, of Holy Trinity BC, is the only Team NI boxer between the ropes on Monday; he meets Ghana in the last 16 and is between the ropes at 6:30pm Also in action on Monday, in his second bout of the tournament, is 57kg Jude Gallagher. He won his last 32 bout on Saturday, and meets England’s Niall Farrell at 7.30pm. Monday’s programme is here

While on Tuesday, 67kg Eugene McKeever contests against Zambia, also in last 16 action. Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist, Aidan Walsh, will meet either Uganda or Lesotho on the same day.

A brace of Team NI boxers in in the ring on August 3rd; Antrim BC’s Nicole Clyde, at 48kg, meets India in her Quarter Final, while Immaculata BC’s Éireann Nugent will meet either England or Nigeria in her QF.

On August 4th, a trio of Team NI boxers begin their tournaments. Emerald BC’s Michaela Walsh, a Tokyo Olympian and World No. 5, takes on Botswana or Malawi in Quarter Final action. 63kg World Champion, St. Bronagh’s Amy Broadhurst, contesting the Games at 60kg, meets Zambia in her QF. 2022 European Silver medallist, Dylan Eagleson, boxes Mozambique in his Quarter Final.

Team Ireland European Schools Championship Complete Preparations: Captains Named.

The 29 strong team selected to contest the European Schools Championship for Ireland have completed preparations, with their last squad training session today.

The tournament is being hosted by the Turkish Boxing Federation in Erzurum, from August 10th to 21st.

The team is comprised of 13 female boxers, and 16 male boxers, all aged 13 and 14.

The Team Captains have been named today as John O’Donoghue of Olympic L and Cassie Henderson of Gilford ABC.

Registration is now open for attendance at the IABA’s EGM:

Time: 5.30pm, or shortly thereafter

Date: August 13th

Location: The National Stadium, Dublin

Eligibility: All clubs who have submitted affiliations for the 2022/2023 season by June 30thare eligible to attend

Attendees: Eligible clubs may nominate any two adult members to attend as delegates – one to be a voting delegate, one to be a non-voting delegate. Delegates nominated by clubs must verified members – this means they must be included in the club’s affiliation application, through Blocworx, for the 2022/2023 season as members and be over the age of 18. *Please note, delegates will be required to present photographic identification (passport, drivers’ licence, etc) on the day of the EGM.

Please note, the registration system will issue a confirmation email, indicating that “1 X ticket” has been secured. This single email confirms registration of the voting delegate, and the non-voting delegate, if a club elects to send two members to the EGM. Clubs don’t need to undertake separate registrations for each of their delegates.

The purpose of this EGM is to consider the following motion:

Motion 1:

“That Articles 5 and 73(e) of the Articles of Association of the Company Constitution be amended to replace the word “State” with “Island of Ireland.”

Passing of this proposed motion by members will not mean that all AGM and EGM will take place in in Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Tyrone and Fermanagh. Passing of the motion by means means that AGM and EGM may take place in these locations. Should the motion be passed by members, the custom and practice of holding such meetings in Provincial Units on a rotating basis is intended to continue.

Any questions which your club might wish to raise at the EGM concerning the proposed motion or any other matter, should be submitted in advance of the EGM, either by post care of The Company Secretary to The National Stadium, 145 South Circular Road, Dublin 8, or by email to info@iaba.ie no later than Monday, 8th August at 17:00 pm. This will facilitate us in providing the fullest response to any queries at the EGM.

Decisive Win for Gallagher; McNaul & Tucker Gear-Up for action.

Jude Gallagher recorded Team Northern Ireland’s first win of the 2022 Commmonwealth Games.

He took on Zweli Comfort Dlamini in the featherweight round of 32.

The Two Castles ABC boxer dominated the bout, throughout, and recorded a 5-0 victory. Jude in now through to the Last 16 – where he will face England’s Niall Farrell in bout 73 of the tournament, on August 1st.

Two Team NI boxers are in action today. 50kg Carly McNaul takes Kristy Lee Harris of Australia at midday, while 75kg Jake Tucker meets Billy le Poullain of Guernsey at 1.45pm.

Not To Be For JP Hale At The Commonwealth Games.

Star ABC’s JP Hale put in a valiant performance in his Commonwealth Games last 32 performance in Birmingham today, but he won’t progress.

JP, contesting at 63.5kg, took on Uganda’s Joshua Tukamuhebwa in bout 6 of today’s afternoon session.

JP claimed the first round 4-1, but it wasn’t to be, with the final score: 29:28, 29:27, 28:28, 28:29, 30: 26
