IABA Welcomes Appointment of Ulster Operations Manager.

IABA welcomes Rachel Cairns, who has has taken up her position as Ulster Operations Manager.

The Ulster Ops Manager oversees all operations of the IABA Ulster Branch, with the strategic focus on improving and developing boxing within Ulster. Rachel will work closely with the Ulster Boxing Council and the County Antrim Board, whilst reporting to the IABA. She will be responsible for the implementation of the IABA Strategic Plan and the Ulster Boxing Council’s Strategy, while also continuing to deliver recommendations of the report of the Independent Working Group Examining Boxing in Ulster.

Rachel joins IABA with a strong record in logistics and operational development manager in the NHS and primary care across two regions in Northern Ireland, Down and Fermanagh.

Rachel, who is from Poyntzpass, a small village near Banbridge & Newry, says “My background is sport and my heart has always been with sport.  But a few years ago I moved to England and moved towards health and physical activity and I worked in this area for 3.5years.  Prior to this I was a Sports Development Officer supporting a wide diverse number of sports (Diving, Trampoline, Gymnastics, Football).  I have always worked in sport and from a young age supporting and working in the Community and Voluntary sector.  My sporting background is hockey – still attempting to play for my local club at Banbridge – though it may be getting close to hanging up the boots and sticks. “

Of boxing, Rachel says “I love that the sport can impact so many people from all backgrounds and walks of life and provide new opportunities and break down so many barriers.  I love the success that NI has had previously, and much more success to come”

Rachel adds “I’m hopeful that I can make an impact in the role, bringing my knowledge from other areas into this role to help progress the sport and organisation further.  I’m keen to create and sustain partnerships with other organisations.  I’m really looking forward to getting involved”.
