Limerick club re-opens after E430,000 up-grade.

Limerick’s Southside Boxing Academy has been formally re-opened after the investment of hundreds of thousands of Euro in its facilities.

The club, established in 2012, caters to 100 members from the wider South Limerick City area.

Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, who officiated the re-opening, says “The €430,000 provided through the Economic and Social Intervention Fund has revitalised this important facility and created a space where young people can thrive. This is exactly the kind of regeneration that delivers real, lasting impact, supporting health, inclusion, and opportunity.”

The upgrade, located at the Galvone Industrial Estate, was managed by Limerick City and County Council’s Regeneration, Sport and Recreation Directorate.

Key improvements include the removal of an internal partition to create space for a second boxing ring and expanded training area.

Upgraded features also include a new heating system, emergency exits, lighting, and enhanced dressing rooms and toilet facilities.
