TEAM NAMED FOR ELITE STRANDJA MULTI NATIONS

 

Ireland will send a 20-strong male and female squad to this month’s Strandja Multi-Nations in Bulgaria.

The 71st edition of the tournament begins on January 20 in the build-up to the European qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 in London next March.

Current European Elite champions Kurt Walker and Aoife O’Rourke line out at feather and middle.

Former World Elite lightweight champion Kellie Harrington returns from a hand injury for her first competitive outing since the European Games in Belarus last June.

Team Ireland are doubling up in seven of the thirteen Olympic limits for men and women for Sofia.

The squad includes current National Elite champions Ceira Smith, Michaela Walsh, Amy Broadhurst, Christina Desmond, Aoife O’Rourke, Jude Gallagher, Dean Clancy, George Bates, Aidan Walsh, Emmett Brennan, Kiril Afanasev and Ken Okungbowa.

Boxing begins on January 21 in Sofia.

The first domestic tournament of the New Year begins on January 10 at the National Stadium with the preliminary rounds of the National U/18 Championships.

The first major international fixture of 2020 begins in London on March 13 at the European qualifiers for Tokyo 2020.

NATIONAL U/18 CHAMPIONSHIPS NOTICE (REMINDER)

 

The deadline for entries for the upcoming National U-18 Championships is Friday, January 3rd, 2020.

All clubs with boxers intending on entering should fill out the necessary entry form which is attached below.

They should also forward on the record book (boxing book) for each athlete taking part and the required entry fee – €20 per boxer.

The entry fee can also be paid directly via credit/debit card by calling Sally at the National Stadium on 01-4533371. The name of the boxer(s) and club should be stated.

For those intending on sending the above by post, it is advised to use registered post as this will allay any fears of items getting lost and the sending club will also be able to track their item to be sure of its arrival.
