Four Nations Youths Dublin 2017 – Daily Results

“All teams came prepared and all the bouts were boxed with lots of determination, skill, fitness and pride. It was a pleasure to watch. We wish all the boxers well in their journey into their Under 18 season and then onto senior boxing in the near future, said JP Kinsella.

“Well done to all the boxers, coaches, officials, supporters, sponsors and mostly to our fantastic volunteers who looked after the teams for Breakfast and lunches for both days – they were amazing.

“Also a massive thank you must go to St. Joseph’s Boys FC for use of their fantastic venue.”

KEY 2018 FOR IRISH WOMEN’S BOXING

Kellie Harrington on medals podium at Astana 2016

Irish women’s boxing is facing into a key 2018 with two AIBA rankings tournaments on the horizon for the New Year.

The first of these will be the European Women’s Elite Championships in Poland in May.

The second – the big one – is the AIBA World Elite Women’s Championships in New Delhi in November.

The tournament, the 10th edition of the Championships, bridges a 12-year gap since Katie Taylor claimed Ireland’s first AIBA World Elite gold in New Delhi in 2006.

So far, Taylor and Kellie Harrington are the only Irish boxers to secure medals at this level.

New Delhi 2018 is not an Olympic qualifier, as the 2020 World Women’s Championships will be brought forward to October  2019 in Trabzon, Turkey ahead of the Tokyo Olympics which begins on July 24, 2020.

The European Schoolboy – and Schoolgirls – Championships will be hosted in May next year in Bulgaria.
