Paris Olympian named Derry & Stranbane Sportsperson of the Year.

Paris Olympian Jude Gallagher has been named Overall Sports Person of the Year by Derry & Strabane District Council.

This is the second time the Two Castles Olympic BC boxer, from Newtownstewart Co. Tyrone, has been honoured with an award by Derry & Strabane DC. He was honoured as a Young Athlete of the Year in 2018.

Jude began boxing when he was 8 years old, and his father, John, famously placed a bet in 2012 that he would qualify for Paris. That dream came good when Jude did exactly that at the 1st Olympic Qualifer in Milan in March of 2024.

Jude won his first Irish Elite title as a 19 year old in 2019, and has since gone on to achieve Olympic qualification and a Commonwealth Games Gold in Birmingham in 2022.
