Kellie Harrington has claimed the lightweight gold at the 73rd Strandja International Tournament.

The 32 year old Dublin woman, the Tokyo Olympic champion, but in a strong, dominant performance against Serbia’s Natalia Shadrina in a strongly contested bout.

The final judges scores were: 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 .

The Team Ireland Squad to contest the European U22 Championships has been named.

The tournament is being hosted by the Croatian Boxing Federation and will take place in at the Intersport Sport Hall,  Poreč from March 11^th to 24^th.

The squad is comprised of 18 boxers – 9 men and 9 women, and includes reigning 2022 IABA U22 Champions

The IABA is delighted to confirm that an Ireland V. Wales international will take place at the National Stadium, the home of Irish boxing.

10 bouts, in all, will be boxed on Friday, March 4^th, in the first international event to be held at the stadium in 2 years.

The card begins at 7pm and will be live-streamed on IABA’s YouTube channel.

The Ireland team to contest on the night includes 8 newly crowned U18 champions.

W75kg Aoife O’Rourke was first in the ring in Sofia, Bulgaria this morning. She faced Russia’s Anastasiia Shamonova

Shamonova is the European U22 middleweight champion, and 2018 Youth Olympic champion at the same weight.

Kellie will take on Serbia’s Natalia Hadrina, after a straightforward unanimous victory over Rimma Volossenko.

The judge’s scorecards read: 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

Kellie will step between the ropes in Sofia in bout 6 of Saturday’s afternoon session, Ring A.
