Katie Taylor with Team Ireland yesterday
Unified WBA and IBF lightweight champion Katie Taylor returned to a familiar stomping ground yesterday.
The London 2012 gold medallist was at the IABA High-Performance Centre in Abbotstown to train with Team Ireland.
The Bray woman, who claimed an astonishing 18 major titles in her stellar Elite amateur career before switching codes, added the IBF title to her WBA belt after an emphatic victory over Argentina’s Victoria Bustos in New York recently.
She’s now planning to unify the entire division and add the WBO and WBC crowns to her collection by the end of the year.
The Wicklow orthodox, unbeaten in nine paid outings, wished Team Ireland the very best of luck in international competition this year.
2018 is a massive 12 months women’s boxing with the European and World Elite Championships slated for this summer and autumn.
