66kg Charlie Dixon won’t progress, on the narrowest of margins. He took on Moldova’s Pavel Raducanu and the 3-2 split decision went to the Moldovan, on a scoreline of 28:29; 29:28; 28:29; 29:28; 28:29. 54kg Tadhg Brennan Tansey returned for his second bout of the tournament, taking on England’s Billy Long. That bout ended in a Round 1 RSC for the English boxer.

44kg Sean Kelly gots his tournament underway against Armenia’s Hakob Sharbatyan and despite a valiant effort, the 5-0 decision was awarded to his opponent. Judges scored the bout 30:27; 30:27; 30:27;30:27
29:28. In bout 10, 60kg Ruairi Walker met Croatia’s Cerim Hoxhaj, with the same decision. The final scoes were: 26:29; 26:29; 26:29; 26:29; 26:29.

50kg Francis Maughan boxed Slovakia’s Dominik Sira in the opening evening bout in Ring B, and progresses by way of a 4-1 split decision: 30:27; 29:28; 30:27; 29:28; 28:29

Thirty nations are participating: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey. There are 363 boxers in the tournament – 363 boys and 240 girls. August 8th is a rest day at the tournament. This is the 21st iteration of the championship. The first Europeans, for male boxers 13 and 14 years old, was held in Rome, Italy in 2003. The most successful team was Turkey, who went home with six gold medals. Second place went to Russia, with three champions, while Ireland, Italy, Azerbaijan and England had one gold medal each. The first EUBC Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships was held in Albena, Bulgaria in 2018. Fifteen years after the inaugural Schoolboys Championships, 12 girls were crowned European Champions.

Day Four

A bumper day for Ireland as 11 boxers will contest quarter finals.

In Ring A’s Afternoon Session, beginning at 2pm Irish time, 40kg Alanna Berry contests for a medal against England’s Summer Griggs. In Bout 7, 44kg Alannah Murphy meets Yeva Grigoryan of Armenia and in Bout 14, 54kg Vanessa Doyle makes her tournament debut against Aleksandra Balbina of Poland. In Ring B, 42kg Kenia Prado, boxing her first bout of the tournament, meets Turkey’s Pehlivan Ceylin in Bout 4. 46kg Aleigha Murphy contests her quarter final against Lily Green of England in Bout 8, and in Bout 16, 57kg Ruth Dossen steps between the ropes against Russia’s Sofiia Titova.

In Ring A’s Evening Session, 34kg-36kg Danielle Smithers opens her campaign against Vittoria Miliani of Italy.

In Ring B’s Bout 3, 60kg Roisin Hegarty begins her campaign against Russia’s Varvara Parshikova, and 64kg Robin O’Reilly returns to action against Iustina Anufrieva, also of Russia – that’s in Bout 5. In the subsequent bout 70kg Ellie May Lawlor contests against Turkey’s Nisa Kaya and 80kg Noel Martin opens his championships against Azerbaijan’s Yusif Aghakishiyev
