Boxing has been twice honoured at the 2025 Belfast City Council Sports Awards. BCC is a long-standing and proud supporter of boxing, through the Belfast Boxing Strategy.
Louis Rooney of Star BC was named Youth Athlete of the Year. Louis is the reigning 48kg National Elite champion, and the 2024 European U23 champion – in February, he brought home bronze from Europea’s oldest multi-nations tournament, Strandja.
Also honoured was double Olympian (Rio; Tokyo, European and European Games medalist, Brendan Irvine. Brendan, of St. Paul’s BC, has worked with IABA as a Community Coach since 2021, and has since opened his own 3rd level based club at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. He has been named Belfast City Council Community Coach of the Year.
