He contested against Moldova’s Davron Bozorov in a tough preliminary contest which Eugene controlled from the first bell – coming away with a 5-0 win. 51k Rickey Nesbitt, Eugene’s Holy Family Drogheda clubmate, contested his preliminary against Uzbekistan’s Asilbek Jalilov. Rickey left it all in the ring but it wasn’t to be, following a 5-0 decision in favour of his opponent. Judge scored the bout 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 26:30.

Algeria, Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, China, France, Georgia, Greece, Guatemala, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tukey, Turkey and Uzbekistan have all fielded teams.
Quarter Finals
4 Team Ireland boxers contest quarter finals tomorrow. 54kg Niamh Fay, having recorded a 3-2 split win over India’s Preeti Preeti, will boxer quarter final against Serbia’s Sara Cirkovic in Bout 3 of Ring B’s Afternoon Session.
Paris qualified 75kg Aoife O’Rourke, who boxed India’s Lovlina Borgohain in her opening bout on Monday and progresses following her opponent’s 3rd round disqualified, meets Poland’s Elzbieta Wojcik in Thursday’s quarter final – Aoife has had her hand raised in all of their previous meetings, most recently, at the semi-finals of the European Games. That contest is in Ring B’s afternoon session – bout 12. Aoife’s sister, 66kg Lisa O’Rourke will also meet Poland – Aneta Rygielska, That’s Bout 10 in Ring A’s afternoon session.
Paris-qualified heavyweight Jack Marley has had the longest wait to begin his campaign – he won’t box until Thursday’s evening session, at the quarter finals stage. He’ll meet Uzbekistan’s Madiyar Saydrakhimov in Bout 3 of Ring A’s evening session.
