Terry McEntee bowed out of the World University Championships at the quarter-finals stage in Elista, Russia today despite flooring his opponent.
The Irish lightweight felled Kyrgyzstan’s Min Uulu Siitbek, who took a count, with a short hook following a sharp exchange in the centre of the ring mid-way through the first round.
The Old School BC/DCU lightweight worked hard and delivered his shots throughout a lively contest. The Asian orthodox, who enjoyed good spells in the second, looked gassed out in the third and was continuously holding McEntee – but the final scores read 29-28,29-28,29-28,29-28, 28-28 to the man from Kyrgyzstan.
Derek Ahern and Paddy Gallagher worked McEntee’s corner this afternoon.
Meantime, Ricky Nesbitt is in action in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
