To mark the homecoming from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games of Team Ireland Boxing, IABA is today beginning the rollout of the Paris Wave series of programmes. This is designed to support boxers, coaches and clubs. A total of 5 programmes and events are being launched throughout this week.
Paris Wave – NextGen is being launched today. This programme will support clubs, financially, in responding to growth in member numbers. IABA will provide a total of E80 for the provision of 4 training sessions for new members over a 6-week period, beginning in September. All clubs offer training to multiple age groups and clubs are welcome to make Paris Wave – NextGen applications for several training groups. For example:
Generic Boxing Club has four training groups, but expects to need to create extra training sessions for new members in their pre-competitive group (egg, aged 8 to 10) and in their competitive Youth Group, and in their Adult Beginners group. Generic Boxing Club applies to Paris Wave-NextGen for all three groups, and is approved. It provides 4 training sessions for each group over a six week period. Generic BC completes all of its Paris Wave-NextGen reporting requirements, submits those reports to IABA and receives a total of E240.
Reporting: Paris Wave – NextGen, in order to receive their programme funding, will need to:
Commit to the programmer’s terms and conditions, which will issue to the club following their completion of the below link.
Send a completed supplier form on conclusion of the programme, which will be shared with applicable clubs by IABA
Complete a report, showing the number of Paris Wave NextGen training sessions held in your club, and the number of people who participated in each class.
Early adopters: the first 20 clubs to apply, and be approved, for Paris Wave – NextGen, will receive E500 equipment purchase funding. This will be paid, in arrears, on provision of applicable receipts. This money will be transferred to the club’s bank or credit union account, only. The list of items that will be funded under the programmed is below. Paris Wave – NextGen clubs can use this funding as part-payment for larger pieces of equipment.
What clubs can apply: every club, successfully affiliation for the 2024/2025 season is welcome to apply to be a Paris Wave-Next Gen club
My club trains boxers at several age groups, can I apply for support for more than one training group in my club? Yes
My club trains adult beginners or child non-competitive groups. Can we become a Paris Wave-Next Gen club? Yes, this programme is not confined to competitive boxing
My club is a third level club. Can we become a Paris Wave-Next Gen club? Yes
My club is a member of the High Five Boxing Academy. Can we become a High Five Paris Wave Next Gen club? Yes.
If my club applies, and is approved for Paris Wave-Next Gen, but we don’t complete the programmed reporting, will we receive financial assistance? No, financial support will only be released to Paris Wave-Next Gen clubs when they have completed reporting.
If my club applies, and is approved for Paris Wave-Next Gen, and is an early adopter eligible for the E500 equipment support fund, can we us this money for capital works, maintenance works, training costs or competition costs? No.
If my club applies, and is approved for Paris Wave-Next Gen, and is an early adopter eligible for the E500 equipment support fund, can we us this money for an item or items not included on the Funding Equipment List? No.

Over the course of the remainder of this week, as part of the Paris Wave programme, IABA will be launch initiatives in coach education, boxer wellbeing, Women in Sport and safeguarding.
Homecoming celebrations for Team Ireland as they return home from the Paris Olympic Games have been confirmed. This includes Team Ireland Boxing’s two time Olympic medalist, Kellie Harrington, and team-mates Daina Moorehouse, Jenny Lehane, Michaela Walsh, Grainne Walsh, Aoife O’Rourke, Jude Gallagher, Dean Clancy, Aidan Walsh and Jack Marley.
This is the first time the Irish Olympic Team have received a civic reception on its return home and the event has been planned in conjunction with Dublin City Council. The Olympic Federation of Ireland says ” We look forward to this momentous occasion that will honour the athletes and their achievements with a public reception this Monday lunchtime; 12th August. “
The event will take place on O’Connell St in front of the GPO, beginning at 12.30pm. This event is fully free to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are not required to attend, so come along to O’Connell Street on Monday with family and friends and help give our wonderful team the homecoming they deserve.
There will be entertainment provided on the afternoon by Block Rockin’ Beats DJ Dec Pierce to get the crowd going before the Irish team takes to the stage.
Dublin City Council is asking people to use public transport when travelling to and from the event, which is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event. The latest information on public transport may be found at www.transportforireland.ie.
Members of the public are asked to enter O’Connell St. from the O’Connell Bridge end. Those attending are asked to follow the event signage and stewards’ instructions.
Clubs and communities will also have their own events to honour members of Team Ireland Boxing. We’ll up-date this article as more information becomes available.

A community homecoming event for the two time Olympic Champion will take place on Killarney Street in Dublin 1 this evening, between 7pm and 9pm. Organised by Dublin City Council, there will be restricted parking on Sean McDermott Street as a result, between 10am and 10pm today.
Daina Moorehouse
Enniskerry Boxing Club has announced that Daina’s homecoming will take place this Saturday at Ballywaltrim Community Centre, starting at 3.30pm with a family day out. There will be bouncy castles, face painting, treats for kids and Daina will arrive at 5pm.
Jude Gallagher
There will be an opportunity to meet and greet Jude at his clubhouse, Two Castles Olympic ABC, Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone, on Friday, August 16th from 7.30pm
Ireland will return from Banja Luca and the 2024 European School Championship with 7 medals: 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze, following today’s finals.
Thirty nations has participated in these championships: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey. There are 363 boxers in the tournament: 363 boys and 240 girls.
46kg Aleigha Murphy contested her final against Poland’s Amelia Urban, and battled bravely. She comes home with valuable rounds in the bank, and a coveted silver medal, after the 5-0 decision went to her opponent. 57kg Ruth Dossen, a second time campaigner at the championships following her 2023 outing, contested Jovana Damjanovic of Serbia in a tight bout. It ended in a split decision for the Ireland boxer, who comes home with gold. 70kg Dominic Barrett took on Poland’s Natan Styczek in a high-tempo high physicality bout – this was another close contest, and Dominic has been crowned champion of Europe on a split decision.
4 boxers were awarded their bronze medals today: 38kg Kayla Harris, 44kg Alannah Murphy, 54kg Vanessa Doyle and 64kg Robin O’Reilly.
This is the 21st iteration of the championship. The first Europeans, for male boxers 13 and 14 years old, was held in Rome, Italy in 2003. The most successful team was Turkey, who went home with six gold medals. Second place went to Russia, with three champions, while Ireland, Italy, Azerbaijan and England had one gold medal each. The first EUBC Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships was held in Albena, Bulgaria in 2018. Fifteen years after the inaugural Schoolboys Championships, 12 girls were crowned European Champions.
Team Managers Stephen Connolly and Jennifer O’Sullivan Coffey would like to thank the club coaches of each member of the European School Championship team, their families who took the time to bring these young athletes to and from the National Stadium for preparatory squad training, and the team’s coaches for their sterling work throughout the competition.
The team returns to Dublin Airport at 6pm on Sunday evening.
