Team Ireland record 4 more wins at Youth 5 Nations.

Team Ireland have claimed another four wins at the 5 nation youth round robin.

It is being hosted by Federazione Pugilistica Italiana in Assissi, and includes the home nation, Ireland, France, Hungary and Ukraine.

48kg Carleigh Irving opened Team Ireland’s account on day two, with a 5-0 decision over Hungary. 50kg Katie O’Keeffe notched-up her second win of competition, as did 54kg Niamh Keogh – both boxers were the UD victors in their bouts. 60kg Ava Rose Henry Lyndon did likewise, against home boxer Luisa Acconcia . 66kg Gabrielle Mongan faced a testy bout against France while 70kg Nell McLaughlin made her debut in Assisi today, and faced Italian boxer, Giulia Molinaro. Gabrielle and Nell both came away with valuable rounds in the bank. It was rest day for Esther Lambe & Natalia Fasciszewska.

Four wins for Team Ireland on the opening day of Youth 5 Nations

Team Ireland claimed four wins on the opening day of a 5 nations round robin in Italy.

The competition is being hosted by the Italian Federation in Perugia, and includes the host nation, France, Hungary, and Ukraine.

50kg Katie O’Keefe, who met France, 52kg Esther Lambe Vs Hungary, 54kg Niamh Keogh against France and 60kg Ava Rose Henry Lyndon against Ukraine, all claimed 5-0 wins. 48kg Carleigh Maria Irving, 57kg Natalia Fasciszewska and 70kg Nell McLoughlin all lost out on split decisions against Italy and Ukraine, respectively. 66kg Gabriel Mongan received a bye.

Work in Boxing: High Performance Coach

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association has a vacancy for a High Performance Coach. The successful candidate will work in the High Performance Unit, led by Zauri Antia, with Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Games champions and medallists.

This is a dynamic, fluid role, requiring  gold standard boxing technical knowledge and fluency, superb communication skills across a range of stakeholder groups, and commitment to the development of Irish High Performance boxing.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

A minimum 1 Star coaching qualification; a higher grade is desirable

Previous professional experience coaching in a High Performance boxing setting.

Previous professional experience coaching high potential Youth and Junior athletes in a High Performance boxing setting.

Competent English language skills

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

2 Star or 3 Star coaching qualification

Previous professional experience in a coaching leadership role in a High Performance boxing setting.

Louth LSP opens Small Club Grants programme.

Louth Local Sports Partnerships Small Club Grants programme for 2023 is now open for applications from clubs within Co. Louth

Grants of up to €1,500 per club are available for application. The scheme is open to new and existing sports clubs within the county.

It is an excellent opportunity for your clubs to receive some additional funding to support participation within their club.

200 girls take part in Belfast Try It! Boxing event and female sports forum.

Over 120 second level students from 5 Belfast schools have taken part in in combined boxing and education event, as part of International Women’s Day festivities.

The schools coaching event Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre is part of the Belfast Boxing Strategy. The day began with the students taking part in a non-contact boxing session, delivered by IABA staff coaches along with club coaches from across Belfast and Ulster.

The boxing session was followed by a series of activities and information sessions on nutrition, mental health, exercise, recruitment, further education and more.

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Sport NI, Belfast City Council, Antrim Boxing Council, Ulster Boxing Council, and the Female Sports Forum were all in attendance.
