World Champions, Broadhurst & O’Rourke, To Appear On 60th Anniversary Late Late Show.

World Championships, Amy Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke, will be guests on Friday’s Late Late Show – the programme’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

Amy and Lisa made history at the Women’s World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 19th when, within the space of 20 minutes, both won finals and claimed world titles, and No. 1 rankings in the process.

The 2022 Women’s World Championships was the first time in the history of the competition that two Team Ireland boxers won through to the finals in the same competition.

Other guests will include Mario Rosenstock of Gift Grub, Aslan’s Christy Dignam, singer Damian Kennedy and a host of others. It airs on RTE 1 on Friday from 9.35pm.

 Unique usernames and passwords for affiliation via the Blocworx portal were issued on Friday, April 29th, along with resources to support completion of the affiliation process. If you have not received your usernames and passwords, please contact info@iaba.ie

Please note: Clubs have been able affiliate to the IABA for season 2022/23 since 12:00 pm/noon Saturday 30th April. The affiliation period will run from April 30th to May 31st.Only clubs, county boards and provincial councils which have fully completed the IABA’s affiliation process before 1st June 2022 will continue to enjoy the privileges of membership. Clubs, county boards and provincial councils can still submit applications after this date however, they will only enjoy the privileges of membership from the date on which their application receives final sign off. 

  • Any club, county board or and provincial council affiliating beyond June 1st should be aware that their organisation will not enjoy the privileges of membership between June 1st and the date on which their late affiliation is signed-off on.

Online Affiliation Process:

A link to access the affiliation platform, Blocworx, was emailed to Club Secretaries, on Friday, 29th April.

  • Clubs could begin their affiliation process after midday on Saturday, April 30th.
  • Click on the link and use the unique log-in details provided in the email from IABA head office to access the online affiliation platform.
  • To assist clubs, and to streamline the process, the IABA has included the most up to date membership data from last season 2021/22. 
  • Clubs will have the option of adding new members or deleting members from their overall list.
  • Easy to follow instructional videos will be made available to members.
  • Staff will also be available to assist members with the digital affiliation process.
  • Clubs in Munster, Leinster and Connacht can submit their queries to info@iaba.ie and clubs in Ulster can submit their queries to ulster@iaba.ie

Submission of an affiliation application is not confirmation of successful affiliation.

All applications will be reviewed, in full, and signed off on before a clubs, county boards or provincial council will be deemed successfully affiliated.

For the avoidance of doubt: membership shall only become effective on the date all approvals have been finalised. If a dispute arises in relation to a body’s application for affiliation to IABA which leads to the application not being accepted, any monies paid as part of the affiliation process will be refunded to the body in question.

Clubs can change their mind about affiliating to the IABA.

To do this your club will need to give notice in writing. You can do this at any time up to 31st August 2022 after making your membership application and your entire membership will end. If you or any of your linked members enters a club to use the facilities during the cancellation period, the IABA will charge a proportion of the affiliation fee to cover this period and we will refund the balance of any fees you have already paid.

Clubs will only be viewed as affiliated members of the IABA following receipt of an official affiliation letter of acceptance from IABA head office.

3 more Team Ireland boxers join Luke Maguire in qualifying for the Men’s European Championships

The first Irish boxer contesting in Yerevan today was flyweight, Sean Mari, who opened proceedings in Ring B, taking on Serbia’s Omer Ametovic in a high octane bout – the Dublin boxer came away the 4-1 split decision winner. The judges scored the bout 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 29:28. Sean boxes his quarter final on Friday, in Ring B’s afternoon session.

75kg Gabriel Dossen boxed his second bout of the tournament today, meeting meets No. 4 seed, Mofid Rami Kiwan of Bulgaria. Gabriel was assured and dominant throughout the bout, and secured is Quarter Final berth by way of a 5-0 win. Judges scored the bout 30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28. Gabriel contests his quarter final on Friday, in Ring A’s afternoon session.

Team Captain, featherweight Adam Hession, seeded No. 4 for the tournament, took on Belgium’s Vasile Usturoi in the first bout of the session. It was a very close bout, well fought by the Irish boxer, which had to be paused several times to deal with a cut on his upper right forehead. Ultimately, the judges scored in favour of the Belgian boxer, on a 4-1 split: 30:27, 29:28, 30:27, 30:27, 27:30.

The last Team Ireland boxer in action on Day Three was lightweight JP Hale. He boxed No. 3 seed, Finland’s Arslan Khataev. JP claimed a 3-2 win. The judges scores: 30:27, 28:29, 27:30, 27:30, 29:28 in favour of the boxer in blue. JP contests his quarter final on Friday, in Ring A’s afternoon session.

Yet to make their tournament debuts are 48kg Rickey Nesbitt, 67kg Eugene McKeever and 92kg Jack Marley. That changes for Eugene and Jack on Thursday, while 71kg Luke Maguire, boxes his second bout of the tournament.

67kg Eugene McKeever takes on No. 2 seed, Serbia’s Vakid Abbasov in a round of 16 encounter -bout 8 of Ring B’s afternoon session. Luke Maguire, the 5-0 winner over Poland’s Daniel Wieslaw Piotrowski in his round of 32 bout, meets No. 3 seed, Georgia’s Eskerkhan Madiev in the first bout of the evening session in Ring B. While heavyweight, Jack Marley, seeded No. 3, takes on Greece’s Vagkan Nanitzanian in bout 5.

VACANCY: High Performance Operations and Logistics Manager

Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) is the National Governing Body of Sport of amateur boxing in Ireland. Governing the 32 counties of Ireland, the Association is responsible for the management and overall development responsible of all areas of the sport. The work of the High Performance Unit is highly collaborative with the Sport Ireland Institute, Sport Ireland Campus, and other key stakeholders.

We are currently looking to recruit a High-Performance Operations and Logistics Manager to join our dynamic High Performance Team.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Job Title: HP Operations and Logistics Manager
Salary Range: The remuneration will be commensurate with the level of expertise and experience. The position is a two-year fixed term contract with the possibility of extensions (subject to a probationary period of 6 months).
Purpose: The HP Operations and Logistics Manager will ensure effective implementation of all logistics and operations of the IABA High Performance programme. This position will drive initiatives to support and assist the preparation of National Teams competing internationally.

LOCATION: IABA HP Unit, National Sports Campus, Abbotstown

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The HP Operations and Logistics Manager will have the following principal duties and responsibilities:
• Arrange and finalise logistics for international teams and national squads. Complete all preliminary and final entries for international team competitions.
• Reporting to the High Performance Director, ensuring that performance support services are fully aligned to achieve maximum impact to deliver consistent and systemic podium success across the entire HP team.
• Develop and update policies and procedures as required, including but not limited to team administration, coaching practice, athlete agreements and athlete welfare.
• Collaborate with Sport Ireland Institute Head of Performance Support to provide direction to the Institute staff team for effective deployment of sports science support and resources in conjunction with the IABA HP coaching team.
• Liaise with the identified coaches and support staff working with High Performance athletes to improve performance through developing, implementing and evaluating all programmes that are being used within the HPU.
• Management of all HP athletes and volunteers in collaboration with IABA HP coaching staff in order to provide an athlete-centred approach and successful and efficient team operations.
• Identify and facilitate appropriate communication methods, including workshops, to inform and educate athletes, coaches and support staff.
• Maintain a comprehensive, indexed database of work conducted with athletes and coaches.
• Ensure the optimal delivery of the HP unit operations across all event campaigns and training camps.
• Provide reports, insights and monitoring data as required by the HighPerformance Director, CEO, and key stakeholders.
• Liaise with Sport Ireland anti-doping unit on all matters as required, including drug testing, TUE’s, and Registered Testing Pool, the Whereabouts Programme and compliance matters.
• Assist and manage the budgetary expenditure/income for the HighPerformance unit, including tracking of all expenditure and the budget for travelling teams to international competition.
• Work closely with other IABA staff to ensure alignment of objectives and activity with other IABA departments.

This is not an exhaustive list and the role will include any duties required by Sport Ireland from time to time which are appropriate for the position and the needs of the organisation.

Knowledge & Experience
The post-holder will have:
• A primary degree. A post-graduate qualification in a relevant field would be a significant advantage.
• At least 3 years’ experience working in sport. Experience within high performance sport is advantageous
• Knowledge and understanding of governance, finance and business models.
• Experience of developing and managing the implementation of planning, performance and evaluation processes.
• Knowledge and understanding of the international sports environment.

• Capable of presenting information verbally in a clear, concise and confident manner.
