3 Days Remaining: Affiliation For The 2022/2023 Season.

3 days remain to complete the affiliation process for the forthcoming season. Existing clubs are reminded that there are no affiliation fees for the 2022/2023 season

Unique usernames and passwords for affiliation via the Blocworx portal were issued on Friday, April 29th, along with resources to support completion of the affiliation process. If you have not received your usernames and passwords, please contact info@iaba.ie

Please note: Clubs have been able affiliate to the IABA for season 2022/23 since 12:00 pm/noon Saturday 30th April. The affiliation period will run from April 30th to May 31st.Only clubs, county boards and provincial councils which have fully completed the IABA’s affiliation process before 1st June 2022 will continue to enjoy the privileges of membership. Clubs, county boards and provincial councils can still submit applications after this date however, they will only enjoy the privileges of membership from the date on which their application receives final sign off. 

  • Any club, county board or and provincial council affiliating beyond June 1st should be aware that their organisation will not enjoy the privileges of membership between June 1st and the date on which their late affiliation is signed-off on.

Online Affiliation Process:

A link to access the affiliation platform, Blocworx, was emailed to Club Secretaries, on Friday, 29th April.

  • Clubs could begin their affiliation process after midday on Saturday, April 30th.
  • Click on the link and use the unique log-in details provided in the email from IABA head office to access the online affiliation platform.
  • To assist clubs, and to streamline the process, the IABA has included the most up to date membership data from last season 2021/22. 
  • Clubs will have the option of adding new members or deleting members from their overall list.
  • Easy to follow instructional videos will be made available to members.
  • Staff will also be available to assist members with the digital affiliation process.
  • Clubs in Munster, Leinster and Connacht can submit their queries to info@iaba.ie and clubs in Ulster can submit their queries to ulster@iaba.ie

Submission of an affiliation application is not confirmation of successful affiliation.

All applications will be reviewed, in full, and signed off on before a clubs, county boards or provincial council will be deemed successfully affiliated.

For the avoidance of doubt: membership shall only become effective on the date all approvals have been finalised. If a dispute arises in relation to a body’s application for affiliation to IABA which leads to the application not being accepted, any monies paid as part of the affiliation process will be refunded to the body in question.

Clubs can change their mind about affiliating to the IABA.

To do this your club will need to give notice in writing. You can do this at any time up to 31st August 2022 after making your membership application and your entire membership will end. If you or any of your linked members enters a club to use the facilities during the cancellation period, the IABA will charge a proportion of the affiliation fee to cover this period and we will refund the balance of any fees you have already paid.

Clubs will only be viewed as affiliated members of the IABA following receipt of an official affiliation letter of acceptance from IABA head office.

An Historic 8 Days In Irish Boxing.

The 8 days between May 19th and May 27th 2022 will go down in the annals of Irish boxing history.

Last Thursday, Amy Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke became the first women from the same Irish team to contest World Championship final in a single tournament. Amy, of St. Bronagh’s ABC, Rostrevor, 29:28, 29:28, 30:26, 29:28, 30:26 victor over Algeria’s Image Khelif. Moment later, Olympic BC Lisa O’Rourke claimed her place atop the podium with a 4-1 split win over Helena Alcinda Panguane of Mozambique. Final scores: 29:28, 26:30, 29:28, 30:27, 30:27.

Today, two Team Ireland men claimed Quarter Final wins at the European Championships, to secure at least bronze medals.

Middleweight Gabriel Dossen contested his third bout of the tournament against Norway’s Mindaugas Gedminas. Gabriel, of Olympic BC Galway, put on an assured and stylish display. The judges scored the bout 28:29, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 29:28, assuring Gabriel of at least a bronze medal, and a semi final place.

Dylan Eagleson of St. Paul’s BC Belfast, boxing at 54kgs, met Spain’s Gabriel Masunano Escobar. The 4-1 split decision went in the Irish boxer’s favour, and he claims at least a bronze medal. The judges scored the bout 29:28, 29:28, 28:29, 29:28, 30:27.

Team Ireland Head Coach, Zauri Antia, says “The performance of all Team Ireland boxers in these (Men’s European) championships are indicative of the preparation at the pre-tournament training camp in Assisi. This was a two week multi-nation camp, where Irish boxers had the opportunity to spar boxers from across the world, and the time to hone their skills. The men have also been inspired by Team Ireland’s performance at the Women’s World Championships”.

Saturday is a rest day for the tournament, and semi-finals take place on Sunday. One ring will be in operation, and Gabriel will contest his semi-final in the afternoon session, beginning at 11am, Irish time. Dylan will be in action in the evening session, beginning at 3pm, Irish time. The tournament is being streamed by the EUBC and the IBA.

Ireland has won 33 medals on the international stage in 2022:

The 73rd Strandja Tournament: 2 Golds

European U22 Championships: 3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze

Golden Belt-Nicolae Linca Tournament: 5 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze

European Youth Championships: 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze

Women’s World Championships: 2 golds.

Men’s European Championships: 2 medals.

Team Ireland Claim 2 Medals At The Men’s European Championships.

Team Ireland have claimed two medals at the Men’s European Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, following quarter final victories by Gabriel Dossen and Dylan Eagleson.

51kg Sean Mari was the first Irish boxer in action on quarter finals day, against England’s Kiaran MacDonald. Sean contested strongly, and the judges delivered a split decision, 4-1, in favour of the boxer in blue. Final scores: 27:30, 29:28, 28:29, 28:29, 27:30.

Minimum weight Rickey Nesbitt met Bulgaria’s Ergyunal Sebahtin in his quarter final. It was a testy bout that ultimately went to the Team Ireland boxer’s opponent on a UD. Scores: 27:30, 28:29, 27:30, 28:29
27:30.

JP Hale contested his quarter final strongly, and also came away with a split decision loss, against, Georgia’s Artyush Gomtsayan. Final scores: 29:28, 28:29, 27:30, 28:29, 28:29.

Tough Day For Team Ireland In Yerevan.

It was a tough day at the office for Team Ireland at the Men’s European Championships in Yerevan, Aremenia.

67kg Eugene McKeever, 71kg Luke Maguire and 92kg Jack Marley were in round of 16 action.

Welterweight Eugene McKeever was the first Irish boxers in action in Yerevan today, taking on No. 2 seed, Serbia’s Vakid Abbasov. Eugene put in a valiant effort, but the decision went to his opponent. The judges scored the bout: 28:29, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30.

Light middleweight, Luke Maguire, boxed No. 3 seed, Georgia’s Eskerkhan Madiev. Luke does not progress on the narrowest of margins, a 3-2 split. That bout was scored 30:27, 30:27, 27:30, 28:29
29:28.

Heavyweight, Jack Marley, was the final Team Ireland boxer on today’s card. He contested against Greece’s Vagkan Nanitzanian. Judges scores the first round a 3-2 split in favour of Marley. 12 seconds of the second round were boxed, during which Jack sustained a cut to the right eye. The decision was left to the scorecards, which read 19:19, 20:18, 18:20, 19:19, 19:19 in favour of the Greek boxer.

Five Team Ireland boxers are in Quarter Final action on Friday.

48kg Rickey Nesbitt makes his tournament debut in bout 4 of Ring A’s afternoon session, against Bulgaria’s Ergyunal Sebahtin. In bout 7 of the same ring and session, lightweight JP Hale meets Georgia’s Artyush Gomtsayan. 3 bouts later, middleweight Gabriel Dossen boxes his 3rd bout of the tournament, against Norway’s Mindaugas Gedminas. Flyweight Sean Mari’s quarter final is bout 3 of Ring B’s afternoon session. He contests against England’s Kiaran MacDonald. Bantamweight, Dylan Eagleson, is the only Irish boxer in action in Friday’s evening session. He boxes his Quarter Final against Spain’s Gabriel Masunano Escobar in bout 4 of Ring A’s evening session.
