THREE WINS AT EUROPEN U/22 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Adam Hession, Kieran Molloy, in the 200th victory of his career, and Jack Marley emerged victorious form today’s European U/22 Championships bouts in Roseto, Italy.

Hession had to come from behind to see off Gabor Virban of Hungary who edged the first round, but Hession took rounds two and three to secure the win.

Molloy advanced after his opponent, Romania’s Eric Tudor, suffered a cut on his forehead near the end of the first round and when it went back to the judges, Molloy deservedly got the nod on a 4-1 split.

Meanwhile, Kane Tucker had to concede a walkover to France’s Raphael Monny. Irish team manager Tara Mari explained that Kane was not feeling well and the decision was taken to withdraw him from the bout as a precaution.

Meantime, Sean Mari had his hands full with Petre Cosmin, the Romanian flyweight taking all three rounds, although Mari had good second and found the target with some neat combinations.

Marley was on top against Dariusz Lasotta. The German heavyweight took a standing count close to the end of the first round and another standing count in the third from a flashing right hook from Marley and the ref waved off the fight.

CLANCY WINS BUT DOSSEN BOWS OUT

Dean Clancy won his second bout in 24 hours to book his ticket into the last eight of the European U/22 Championships in Roseto, Italy, tonight.

But Gabriel Dossen went out of the tournament on a unanimous decision.

Clancy beat Serbian No.3 seed Nenad Javanovic on a unanimous verdict, with one judge scoring the fight 30-25 to the Irishman.

Dossen was involved in a tight tussle with Moreno Fendero, but it was the French middleweight that got the nod after the final bell.

Earlier today, Ireland experienced mixed fortunes on 4-1 split decisions.

Sean Mari advanced, but Niamh Earley bowed out.

Mari, an Irish army man and son of team manager, Tara Mari, beat England’s Hamza Mahmood.

But Earley lost on an identical scoreline to Romane Moulan of France.
