Kellie Harrington and Michaela Walsh upgraded their guaranteed bronze medals to at least silver at the European qualifiers for Tokyo in Paris today.

But there was last four dissapointment for Aoife O’Rourke and Aidan Walsh who lost out this afternoon.

Harrington had to get off the floor to record her victroy, the Dubliner winning rounds two and threee to book her spot in Tuesday’s lightweight final.

Michaela Walsh also has to come from behind, the Belfast feather beating Stanimira Petrova on a split after three close and technical rounds.

O’Rourke gve it everything against Lauren Price, the top seed in the middleweight class. Likewise with Aidan Walsh against Pat McCormack.

Emmet Brennan will be in action tonight fighting for a place in Tokyo via a box off with Sweden’s Liridon Nuha

The death has occurred of Patsy Doherty, Burnfoot, Co.Donegal. 

Patsy is the father of AIBA International referee and judge Sadie Duffy. We in the IABA wish to extend our condolences to Sadie and her family at this sad time.

Patsy will be laid to rest following 11am mass in St.Mura’s Church, Fahan, Donegal on Monday. May he Rest in Peace.

Michaela and Aidan Walsh booked their tickets for the Olympic Games in Paris, France today.

The Belfast sister and brother beat Sweden’s Stephanie Thour and Ukraine’s Yevheni Barabandy.

Michaela, boxing well within herself, posted a unanimous decision over Thour in the featherweight division,.

And Aidan bit down on his gum shield to grind out a 3-2 split decision over Barabandy, the No. 4 seed in the welter class.

The Walsh siblings now join Kellie Harrington, Aoife O’Rourke and Brendan Irvine on the plane to Tokyo.

Both boxers are also guaranteed at least bronze in Paris and will fight in the semi-finals tomorrow.

High tempo shadow boxing, movement & feints only.

Round 3

Lead hand only round. Feinting, single jabs, double jabs, triple jabs going forward & back. Straight line movements only.

Round 4

Lead hand feint, followed by step back or to the side ( avoiding opponents counter ) then your own 3\4 punch counter with back hand lead.

Round 5

Close range boxing, with feet planted, good strong stance, chin on chest high guard, throw 3\4 punch combos using short hooks & uppercuts.

Round 6

Putting rounds 3 & 4 together with both attacking & defensive manouvres. For example; single jab, step to side, back hand, lead hand, back hand.

S&C Session

Running.

Explosive Sprints/Walking Lunges ( 3 sets of 5 )

Try and find a safe place to run approx. 15 metres.

Walking Lunges for approx. 15 metres, turn and sprint back to starting point, 10 sec break then go again.

Core Exercises
