IABA launches Level One: Club Coach coaching course.

IABA is delighted to launch the Level One: Club Coach qualification, and 2nd step on IABA’s Coach Education Pathway.

Over 600 people have gained their first coaching qualification, Fundamentals: Assistant Coach, since its launch in November of 2022. All Fundamentals qualified coaches are eligible to undertake Level One learning, once they have been qualified for 6 months.

Level One Eligibility Requirements

1. Be a member of an IABA affiliated club, and named in the club’s Blocworx portal

2. Have completed the Fundamentals: Assistant Coach course through the IABA.

3. Completed a minimum 6 months coaching in their boxing club post completion of the Fundamentals course.

4. Have an up-to-date Safeguarding 1 Certificate.

5. Have an up-to-date Access NI /Garda Vetting cert.

6. Applicants must be 18 years old

Level One course format

The Level One: Club Coach course is 22 hours of learning, in total, taking place as follows:

2 x 3 hour online learning sessions; 2 full days: 8 hours per day. Participants must also complete a coaching log and practise; taking 0-15 hours

Booking

Clubs can book on participant’s behalf through the Course Application section of their portal. The cost, per person, is €200

Two Level One courses have been scheduled, initially. IABA’s holding of coaching courses rests on the availability of qualified Coach Tutors and the availability of venues:

May 12th & May 19th: Sacre Couer BC, Wexford

June 23rd & June 30th: The Hub, Castlerea

Coach Education Pathway

  • Fundamentals of Coaching Boxing Assistant Coach – This course is for those wishing to begin their coaching career and gain an excellent grounding in fundamental technical aspects of boxing. Assistant coaches may sit at second corner in championship bouts.
  • Level 1 Club Coach – This course provides the minimum certification required for coaches to act as first corner in championship bouts and provides the technical grounding to enable coaches to bring boxers to competition.
  • Level 2 Performance Coach – This course provides advanced technical skills and coaching techniques to Level 1 qualified coaches.
