2 Wins for Team Ireland on Day Four of the European Schools Championships.

Team Ireland have recorded two more wins at the European Schools Championship in Turkey.

First up was 44kg Daniel Joyce, who boxed Greece’s Asileios Vasileiadis in bout 6 of the Afternoon Session. The Irish boxer put in a style performance and came away with a 5-0 win. The judges scored the bout 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27: 30. Daniel is now through to the Quarter Finals, and boxes again on Wednesday. Next up, in Bout 13, was the meeting of 48kg Christian Doyle Italy’s Antonio Marongiu. The Team Ireland boxer was dominate from the off, and progress to the Quarter Finals, following a 5-0 win. The final scoreline: 27:30, 28:29, 27:30, 27:30, 27: 30. He boxes again on Thursday.

In bout 9 of the Evening Session, 54kg Danny Mahon also met Italian opposition, in the form of Gabriele Bellandi. Mahon put in a valiant effort, but won’t progress following a 5-0 decision in favour of Bellandi. The judges scored the bout 30:24, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27.

Team Ireland are already assured of at least two bronze medals, following victories by 40kg Elma Barry over Ukraine. Elma boxes for a place in the finals in August 18th’s afternoon session. The second guaranteed medal will come home with 42kg Abbey Molloy, who won her place in the semi finals with a win over Turkey.

The fifth day of boxing in the tournament begins at midday on Tuesday, Irish time. 7 Team Ireland boxers are in action. 46kg James Michael “Jamsie” Casey meets Romania’s Raul Benea Antonio in bout 6 of the afternoon session. In bout 16, 50kg Brandon Geoghegan boxes England’s Paddy McDonagh.

In bout 3 of the evening session, 63kg Broderick Adbuire meets Moldova’s Vladislav Patosca. In bout 8, 70kg John Paul Mongans contests against Greece’s Nikolaos Bliatze. In Bout 12, 75kg Callum Barrett takes on Germany’s Colin Lottner. 3 bouts later, Richard Daniel Kiely, contesting at 80kg, boxes Macedonia’s Ilia Hornet, and in Bout 20, 90kg Jordie Cooke meets Maftei Ianis of Romania.
