3 Ireland boxers to contest European School Championship finals.

3 Ireland boxers are through to the final of the 2024 European School Championship in Banja Luca, and 4 will come home with bronze medals.

46kg Aleigha Murphy contested against Turkey’s Sude Temucin in a high-octane bout between well-met opponents. The decision, a 3-2 split, went to the Crumlin boxer on a score-line of 27:30; 27:30; 28:29; 29:28; 30:27. While 57kg Ruth Dossen was involved in a simililarly close contest with Italy’s Mira Amadori, and progresses to Saturday’s final on a 3-2: 28:29; 29:28; 29:28; 27:30; 27:30.

70kg Dominic Barrett was the last Ireland boxer in action today, contesting against Moldova’s Alexandru Bujor. This was a high-tempo bout, on the hells of two wins for Dominic. The referee raised his hand, on 4-1 decision. Judges scored the bout 28:29; 27:30; 30:27; 27:30; 28:29

44kg Alannah Murphy boxed for a place in the finals against Glafira Rokhina of Russia – she gave her all in the bout but it wasn’t to be. The 5-0 decision went to her opponent, on a scoreline of 28:29; 27:30; 27:30;
27:30; 27:30. Five bouts later, 60kg Vanessa Doyle met Greece’s Petritsi Panagiota – this was a tight bout, and Vanessa put in a battling performance. The 4-1 split went Panagiota’s way and judges scored the bout 28:29; 29:28; 30:27; 29:28; 30:27.

38kg Kayla Harris opened her campaign against Russia’s Ivana Rolikova, and boxed well against her opponent. The decision, another 4-1 split, went to the Russia with scores of 30:27; 28:29; 29:28; 30:27
30:27. While 64kg Robin O’Reilly met Italian opposition, in the form of Gaia Caldarella. Robin, who has won two bouts at the tournament, battled bravely, but the UD went to Caldarella. Judges scored the bout 29:28; 30:27; 29:28; 30:27; 30:27.

Thirty nations are participating: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey. There are 363 boxers in the tournament – 363 boys and 240 girls. 

Finals

Friday is a rest day at the tournament, and finals will be boxed on Saturday from 1pm.

46kg Aleigha Murphy will contest her final against Poland’s Amelia Urban – that’s Bout 6 of the Afternoon Session. 57kg Ruth Dossen meets Jovana Damjanovic of Serbia in Bout 10.

In the Evening Session, beginning at 4.30pm, 70kg Dominic Barrett takes on Poland’s Natan Styczek, in Bout 10.
