5 Team Ireland boxers contest their Women’s European Championship quarter finals today, and vie for podium places.

48kg Shannon Sweeney is back in action, boxing against Slovakia’s Nicole Durikova in bout 2 of the afternoon session. Flyweight Carly McNaul meets Italy’s Olena Savchuk in her QF in bout 8 of the same session. 57kg Micheala Walsh contests against Romania’s Claudia Nechita in bout 10.

In the evening session, 63kg Amy Broadhurst boxes Serbia’s Milena Matovic in bout 3. That will be followed in bout 10 by Christina Desmond’s quarter final bout against Sweden’s Hanna Ingrid Malena Hede.

In all, 9 Team Ireland boxers have won through to the quarter finals. Olympian, 75kg Aoife O’Rourke will meet Turkey’s Busra Isildar in her Quarter Final on Wednesday’s evening session. Reigning lightweight Olympic champion, Kellie Harrington is also back in the ring on Wednesday, as are welterweight, Kaci Rock, against Germany and 50kg Caitlin Fryers.
