AIBA COMMISSION MEETINGS CONCLUDE IN INDIA

The India Boxing Federation welcomed a delegation of over 100 AIBA Commission members to New Delhi for two days of meetings from 27-28 February, during which their recommendations for the Tokyo 2020 road-map were finalised and shared. The AIBA Commission meeting concluded yesterday.

Joe Hernon, Vice-President of the IABA and a member of the AIBA Youth Commission, Breandán Ó Conaire, former President of the IABA and a member of the AIBA Referees and Judges Commission, and referee and judge Anna Moore, a member of the AIBA Women’s Commission, represented the IABA in New Delhi.

Of particular interest to women’s boxing, which delivered Ireland’s only Olympic gold – courtesy Katie Taylor – in all sports this century, is the part of today’s AIBA statement which read “the increased participation of women in the Tokyo 2020 boxing competition.”

Women currently compete in three Olympic weights – flyweight, lightweight and middleweight.
