IABA EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO COGAN FAMILY

flowerThe Irish Athletic Boxing Association extends its deep condolences to the Cogan family following the death of Catherine Cogan.

The late Catherine Cogan was a former staff member with the Irish Athletic Boxing Association. She sadly passed away today.

Formerly of Curlew Road. Peacefully, at St James’ Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Jimmy and sister of the late Angie and Jimmy. Sadly missed by her loving sons Anthony, Mark and Christopher, grandchildren Nicole, Launa, Kyle and Liliana, mother Gertrude and her partner Tommy, daughter in law Caroline, brothers John and Mark, sisters Janet and Joan and special friends Frances and Tony Sherwin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles, nephews, nieces, relatives neighbours and friends.

May she rest in eternal peace.

The stage is set for Dublin Schoolboys versus Yorkshire Schoolboys at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Boxing begins at 1pm at the home of Irish boxing.

The Yorkshire team arrived via Dublin Airport early this evening. Both sides weigh-in tonight at the Haddington Hotel in Dun Laoghaire (8pm).

Welcoming Team Yorkshire to Ireland, coach JP Kinsella predicted an afternoon of top class boxing.

Saturday’s card will be decided over two dozen bouts featuring Irish, English, Dublin and Yorkshire champions.

The match is a second leg meeting.In January, the Dubs, trailing 7-2 at one point, herocially fought back to claim a 13-9 victory.

So Yorkshire will arrive with all guns blazing!

Admission for Saturday’s rematch is €10 for adults. Free entry for children.

ELITE SCHOOLBOY TRAINING

Elite Schoolboys Squad Training commences this Sunday (September 18th) for all last seasons Boy 1 and Boy 2 Champions plus Cadet Champions at those ages.

Training takes place in the High Performance Gym at the National Boxing Stadium. Two sessions take place on the day with dinner between sessions.

Session one is from 11am – 12:30pm and session two is from 2pm – 3:30pm.

Boxers are required to have full training gear – good quality 16oz sparring gloves, bag gloves, a headguard, groinguard, wraps, gumshield, skipping rope, water for two sessions and a change of clothes.

Training will continue every second week. Their next training after this Sunday will be October 2nd (Boy 3 and Boy 4 Champions training on the alternate Sunday).

If any boxer is unable to attend, clubs are asked to inform schoolboys coordinator, Paddy Gallagher 087-6286269.

THE CLAREMORRIS BOXING CLUB GEARS UP FOR NEW SEASON

The Claremorris Boxing Club, the only affiliated Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) club in Claremorris, held its AGM on Sunday last.

Pat Ryan, President of the IABA, and Stephen Connolly, IABA National Registrar, attended the AGM at which all club officers were elected.

Training for the new season begins on Thursday, September 22nd next.
