George Bates and Dmitry Dimitruk in Prague today
George Bates recorded a Bundesliga double in Prague, Czech Republic this evening.
The St Mary’s BC (Dublin) lightweight took all three rounds against Ladislav Matus of the Czech Republic to claim a unanimous decision.
Tonight’s win was Bates’ second on the trot in the Bundesliga as he convincingly beat Poland’s Radomir Ubrudnik in Germany in March.
Olympic BC ace Frankie Cleary also won in Germany, but London 2012 Olympian Adam Nolan was edged on a split versus former European champion Balazs Bacskai of Hungary in the 69kg class.
Athletes are invited to compete in the Bundesliga representing local sides.
Irish coach Dmitry Dimitruk, who was working Bates’ corner in Prague, said “he boxed very well in a good fight.”
