BOXERS QUALIFIED FOR RIO 2016 SO FAR

103 boxers (109 including the host places) have qualified for Rio 2016 so far.

Please scroll down for list of boxers qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics following the completion of the Americas and African AIBA Open Boxing (AOB) qualifiers in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Yaoundé, Cameroon over the weekend.

 

Thirty three athletes qualified in the Cameroon and thirty in Buenos Aires. The Americas qualifiers had a slightly lower yield as Brazil has taken its six host – five for men, one for women –  places in the 49kg,52kg,56kg,64kg, 81kg and female 60kg weights.

 

Prior to the Americas and African qualifiers, sixty boxers, including Ireland’s Joe Ward, Steven Donnelly, Michael Conlan and Paddy Barnes, qualified for the 31st Olympiad through AOB, the World Series of Boxing (WSB) and AIBA Pro Boxing (APB). Click here for list of 60 boxers.

 

Meanwhile, the Asian/Oceania AOB qualifiers begin on March 25 in China. These will be followed by the European qualifiers which begin in Samsun, Turkey on April 9th. Ireland will send a nine-strong squad to Samsun.

 

Following the completion of the Asian/Oceania and European qualifiers, three routes to Rio 2016 will remain via the World Women’s AOB Championships in Kazakhstan in May, the final (for men) AOB World qualifier in Baku, Azerbaijan in June and a WSB versus APB tournament in late June or early July at a host city to be confirmed. The Rio 2016 Olympics begin on August 5th. 286 boxers will compete at the Games.
