CHIENG GETS RIO INVITATION IN TAYLOR’S WEIGHT

Katie Taylor podium

Jennifer Chieng of Micronesia has received the Tripartite Commission (wild card) invitation place in Katie Taylor’s weight for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Her inclusion competes the women’s lightweight category of twelve boxers for the Games which begin in August.

Europe, with six boxers over the line, has taken 50% of the places.

The percentage for Europe is 60% qualified directly, given that Brazil has received a host place and Micronesia an invitation.

Judit Mbougnade (Central Africa) and Atheyna Bylon (Panama) received Tripartite Commission invitations in the flyweight and middleweight classes.

Female boxing is restricted to three weights at the Olympics.

36 female boxers compete at each Games, as opposed to 250 men across ten weights.
