DESMOND AWARDED BRONZE AT EUROPEAN ELITES

Christina Desmond, pictured, was presented with her bronze medal at the European Elite Women’s Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria today.

The Cork southpaw was adjudged to have lost to Maily Nicar in yesterday’s 75kg semi-final, the French middleweight receiving a split decision.

Nicar was beaten in today’s final by England’s Natasha Gale.

Russia won four gold and four bronze to top the medals table at the final AIBA ranking event of 2016.

Desmond, courtesy of her bronze medal win, will pick up 300 Elite AIBA  ranking points.

Team Ireland are scheduled to arrive home from Sofia via Dublin Airport at 4.50pm tomorrow afternoon (November 24th).
