Cork middleweight Christina Desmond was presented with her bronze medal at the 7th World University Championships in Thailand today.

The Fr. Horgan’s BC and Limerick Institute of Technology southpaw reached the semi-finals of the tournament at Chaing Mai  University.

Michael O’Brien, President of the Cork County Boxing Board, said that Desmond, the current Irish Elite champion, had done Irish and Leeside boxing proud.

Kenny Okungbowa also reached the last-four in south east Asia. The Athlone heavyweight was presented with his medal yesterday.

Desmond, Okungbowa, Ceire Smith, Gary McKenna and Conor Wallace represented the Irish Athletic Third-Level Boxing Association in Thailand.

The Irish squad are due to arrive home at 10.10am via Dublin Airport on Monday morning (Terminal 2).
