Steven Donnelly will be targeting his second win at 2016 Olympics and a place in the quarter-finals in Rio today.
The Ballymena BC welter, who has one under his belt from last weekend at the Games, meets Mongolia’s Tuvshinbat Byamba at approximately 4:45pm this afternoon (Irish time).
Donnelly impressed on his Olympic debut last Sunday after recording a convincing victory over Algeria’s Zahir Kedache.
Morocco’s Mohammed Rabii, the current World Elite 69kg champion and No. 1 seed in the 69kg class in Rio,and Kenya’s Nduke Okwiri go head-to-head in the corresponding last 16 contest this afternoon.
No Irish boxers are in action Friday, but the team are facing into a busy weekend with Brendan Irvine, Michael Conlan and Katie Taylor out on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Both Conlan and Taylor are the No. 1 seeds in their respective bantam and light classes.
Taylor awaits the winner of the Friday’s four-rounder between Finland’s Mira Potkonen and Brazil’s Adriana Araujo in the quarter finals.
