Dervla Duffy bowed out of the European Elite Women’s Championships at the last 16 stage this afternoon in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Irish bantam was beaten on a unanimous decision over four-two minute rounds by Romania’s Lacramiora Perijoc at the Sport Hall in the Bulgarian capital.
The first frame of today’s encounter was close with plenty of leather finding the target from both sides, but Perijoc, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Elite Championships, took the second and remaining rounds en route to a tight but deserved victory.
Irish head coach Zaur Antia said that Duffy gave it everything against a tough and experienced opponent.
Lauren Hogan and Grainne Walsh will be in action tomorrow in the bantam and welter classes.
The Irish squad will have a training session this evening ahead of Wednesday’s bouts against Russia and Serbia.
