Limerick heavyweight Kevin Sheehy and Antrim flyweight Conor Quinn bowed out of the European U/22 Men’s and Women’s Championships at the preliminary round stage in Targu Jui, Romania today.

Sheehy fought back well in rounds two and three after a visit to the canvas in the first versus Felik Kuhne, the St Francis BC man rattling his opponent with a sweeping right in the second.

Sheehy’s double jab was also effective but the German fighter, whose single shots were equally as effective, got the decision.

Quinn boxed superbly in rounds one and two, the Clonard BC prospect landing the majority of cleaner and varied shots against aggressive Russian flyweight Maksim Stakheev who had his hand raised in victory after an untidy third frame.

Galway middleweight Gabriel Dossen is in action tomorrow in Romania, along with Irish captain Jordan Moore (to be confirmed).
