Dylan Duffy and Keith Flavin joined Jordan Moore in the quarter-finals of the European U/22 Championships in Braila, Romania.
But current Elite champion Kurt Walker, Keylan Cassidy and Brian Kennedy bowed out to opponents from Italy and Greece, Walker unlucky to be on the wrong end of 4-1 split versus Raffaele Di Serio in a see-saw bantam contest.
Flavin and Duffy impressed, with Duffy on top against Dutch lightweight Romano Marengo and Flavin forcing Belarusian light-welter Mikhail Baisiakov into two standing counts in the first en route to a comprehensive win.
Cassidy, who won one bout in Braila this week, was beaten by compact Italian southpaw Salvatore Cavallaro in a three-rounder which was a lot closer than the unanimous decision against the Irishman suggested and four of the judges favoured Greek light-heavy Polneikis Kalamaras in a close bout with Kennedy.
Duffy, Flavin and Moore will maintain Ireland’s interest at the 2nd edition of the tournament this weekend. If any of the trio win tomorrow or Sunday they will be assured of at least bronze.
Moore is in action Saturday and Duffy and Flavin on Sunday.
