Two Irish R&Js qualify as International Technical Officials.

Two Irish R&Js have become International Technical Officials.

Sadie Duffy, of Illies Golden Glove has become one of just four women in the world to qualify as an International Technical Official. Dermot McDermott, of the Curragh BC, has also earned the same qualification.

The IBA has a number of strict criteria which limits the number of people who qualify to undergo ITO training. Sadie, a 3-Star qualified R&J, was selected on the basis of her exceptional past performance history. Most recently, she was named Outstanding Referee & Judge at the Women’s World Championships in Turkey. Dermot was among the comparatively small number of R&Js, globally, invited to officiated at the Tokyo Olympics.

Both took part in the International Technical Official (ITO), Evaluator, Referee & Judge
Instructor course in Assisi, Italy from earlier this month, and have achieved qualification. Sadie and Dermott have also qualified as R&J Evaluators and R&J instructors.

ITO positions include the following roles:
Deputy Technical Delegate
Draw Commissioner
Ringside Doctor
IBA Cut Technician
Referee and Judge Evaluator
Referee and Judge Coordinator
Observer
Equipment Manager

Both Sadie and Dermott can begin activities involved with their new qualifications immediately. The Officer Board of the Central Council would like to extend congratulations to Sadie and Dermott on their wonderful achievements.
