The Irish Athletic Third-Level Boxing Association (IATBA) squad arrived in Thailand yesterday ahead of the start of the World University Championships at Chiang Mai University tomorrow,October 3rd.
Ceire Smith, Gary McKenna, Conor Wallace, Christina Desmond and Ken Okungbowa line out for the IATBA in south east Asia.
Team Ireland completed a light training session of stretching and pad work yesterday, according to coach Paddy Gallagher.
“We get our accreditation tomorrow and a tour of the boxing venue, he said.
“So far, the set up seems excellent in terms of what they have ready for the tournament. The layout of medical rooms, weigh-in section, officials room, technical room etc is excellent and they even have two boxing rings on site for training and five free standing punch bags.”
Thailand is six hours ahead of Ireland. Monday’s weigh-ins will be held between 8am and 10am local time. Boxing begins at 3pm (9am Irish time) Monday.
