Top international referee John Casey was presented with the Cork Boxing Personality of the Year Award at Cork City Hall on Tuesday.
The function was hosted by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Joe Kavanagh.
Leeside’s 1st citizen said that Casey was a credit to the sport.
In a tribute to John, much of his refereeing and judging career was recalled before Conal Thomas, President of the Cork Boxing Fraternity Association, presented him with the 2020 Award.
Michael O’Brien, President of the Cork County Boxing Board, said that John Casey was a worthy winner and an outstanding ambassador for the sport in Cork and Ireland.
Dominic O’Rourke, President of the IABA, and Stephen Connolly, IABA National Registrar, hailed John Casey’s performances in international and domestic competition.
