Irish boxing experienced mixed fortunes in two pulsating semi-finals at the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial in  Anapa, Russia this morning.
Kieran Molloy advanced but Michael Nevin bowed out at the last four-stage by the banks of the Black Sea.
Molloy, an AIBA World Junior bronze medallist, beat Danis Gabdrafikov on a split decision to record his second win over a Russian opponent in Anapa this week.
The Galway ace will be aiming to upgrade his silver medal to gold versus  a Cuban light-welter (name to be confirmed shortly) in Wednesday’s 64kg final.
Nevin, the current European Youth champion, lost to Kazakhstan’s Oleg Matveychuk, the current Asian champion, in what Irish coach Billy McClean described as a high quality bout. Final scores read 29-28 to the Kazakh across the board.
International Youth boxing is building up toward the AIBA World Youth Championships in St Petersburg, Russia in November.
Team Ireland, who have been in training camp and competition in Anapa for two weeks, are due to arrive home via Dublin Airport on Wednesday evening at 9:10 pm (T2)
